Tornado Update (with Pictures)
Now that we've got power, and I've had time to reboot the Internet (we "borrow" DSL from
ringsnake and
snakewyfe, and after the power goes out, it doesn't always come up properly on its own), I've got pictures.
Some of these pics were from the night of, some from the next day. I need an external flash - I have a lot of very dark pics because the built-in flash isn't worth much for outdoor shots.
According to today's paper, the tornado that touched down in the Midvale area has now been upgraded from F0 to F1, with average winds of around 90-100mph.

The Madison Recycling Center took a hit from the high winds (the funnel cloud had lifted by this point, but there was still a lot of wind). Of course, when high winds blow open a building full of light-weight stuff (like paper for recycling), that stuff then rapidly exits the building, so we're still cleaning up bits and pieces of debris.

Looking out from R&S's balcony, you can see the tree parts all over the grassy area, but they all missed the truck. I took Thursday afternoon off and cleaned up all the tree pieces. It took most of the afternoon, and made a heap about 6'x6'x4'.

The broken top of the tree. I had to shoot the rope saw up over the tree and take off one branch that was mostly cracked through, but wasn't falling or easily pulled loose. I almost got the saw stuck twice, and left about a 3' length of trunk attached to the tree because I couldn't quite hit the break with the leader line.

The branch that I had to cut off is at the break in the center of the picture. Unfortunately, I didn't get a pic that showed it very well. There's also another large split limb on the tree in from of 1102. I offered to cut it off, but Dave (the landlord) wasn't willing to take responsibility for whatever it landed on (like both of the 1102 balconies), instead he's going to have someone with a boom truck take it off.

This is 1129 (where I used to live), Thursday morning. The tree that is close to the building is split at the base, and is actually leaning against the side of the building. The tree on the right is in the median between the sidewalk and road and has started to tip and pull out of the ground.

Marco (the guy who owns 1129) and his gang clearing out the tree. They left one trunk from the tree by the building, but I think that that may be because it's holding up the other tree.
