Jul. 20th, 2008 04:33 pmYesterday I built a window-sized opening on one of the inside walls of
teeka's shop and installed an air conditioner. It's set up so that it vents into the garage, as that way I don't have to worry about making it completely weather tight, and if we decide to remove it, it doesn't automatically create a hole in the wall for nature to get in through.
The thermometer in the garage wasn't changing, however, when the unit was running, even though the room seemed to get cooler.
Today we finally figured out that one of the neighbors must have a remote thermometer that uses the same channel ours does and we're reading that remote, not the one in the garage. As we've removed the batteries from the remote in the garage, and the displays (on the atomic clocks in the living room and bathroom) haven't changed, I'm fairly sure there's another remote broadcasting somewhere nearby.
We had a second wireless thermometer (on a different frequency range) that we were actually using for outside temp, so I moved that remote into Teeka's shop, and it now reads the correct temp, and shows that her shop is currently holding at about 75F.
We got an 8,000BTU A/C unit, which is bigger than we need (we only have 100 square feet, which normally would only need a 5,200-6000 BTU unit), but we think that this one should be able to keep up even if the exhaust system is running.
Now I'm waiting for it to start dripping off the back of the unit so that I know where I need to build a drain system for it.
