Technology

I just got a new cell phone (same number as the old one).

There's nothing wrong with my old one - it still functions properly and has a good battery.

It does, however, have a "feature" that I dislike.

The Nokia 1112 (and, from what I've seen online) has the ability to dial emergency numbers even when the keypad is locked. It's got 5-8 preset code numbers installed (it apparently depends on the service provider).

Yesterday I pocket-dialed 911, and, as that's not the first time that's happened, I decided it was time for a new phone. The new one is a flip-phone, so that shouldn't be a problem again.

Betrayed by technology... A horrible ending!

You should get one of those new Cyberdyne phones. They're really smart. I let mine take care of everything. What could go wrong?

Yikes. I remember back in my grad student days when folks trying to call home (overseas calls) would accidentally dial 911 instead of 011. If they didn't stay on the line to explain their mistake to the operator we ended up getting cops/ambulances/fire engines/whatever showing up at our apartment complex... on a regular basis
