[livejournal.com profile] teeka just called to say she's going to work late.

So far today she's made more than all the other days of library mall sales put together (ok, there were only two other days, but it's still a good thing to have happen).

She usually packs up between 2-3pm, but is going to stay until 5pm and see if there's a surge in business as everyone goes home (or, as [livejournal.com profile] misteropinion put it, "I'm on my way home, and I think I should buy the wife a trinket so I can get laid.")

After work I went over to Library Mall to see how [livejournal.com profile] teeka was doing and we hung out there until almost 5:30 (we started packing up a little after 5). Then Teeka rode off and I caught a bus.

When I got home, there were two new messages on the answering machine. While the first was playing, the phone rang. It was Teeka. Could I come and pick her up (from the Madison Newspapers parking lot) because the cart had broken.

I went to hop in the truck and go get her, but then stopped, unloaded all the log weekend stuff from the back, and grabbed a power screwdriver in case I had to lower the cart to fit it into the truck, and then off I went.

When we built the cart, we had attached the draw bar with two 1/4" carriage bolts. From the constant vibration, a crack had formed at the root of one turn of thread, and the front bolt finally sheared. This caused the cart to swerve, Teeka to stop, and at this point, all that was wrong was a need for a new bolt. While she was checking it out, her bike fell over (the cart throws the balance off a little, and the kick stand's a little too short), breaking the left-hand mirror on her bike. This is the second time she's broken that mirror, probably due to the cart being connected.

Blatant plug: We like the Mountain Mirrycle mirrors, but we wish that there was a plastic mirror available. So far we've broken the mirror twice and the top arm once. /Blatant plug

I stopped at the hardware store while we were running errands and replaced the two 1/4" carriage bolts with three 3/8" grade 8 machine bolts. I don't think it'll break again. At least not at those bolts.
