We're glad it wasn't us....
Mar. 7th, 2006 11:43 pmWe came home (or tried to) from gaming about half an hour ago, and couldn't turn into our street because it was full of emergency vehicles (several police cars, two pumper trucks, one ladder truck and an ambulance, as we later counted).
The tenants in one of the other buildings had a furnace fire. Talking with our landlords we found out that they had been having furnace problems for the last several months. When your furnace or thermostat has problems where the temp in your house keeps rising, and all you do is manually turn off the furnace, there's probably going to be a bigger problem later.
Apparently the furnace (literally) burned out.
We (and Dave and Silke, the landlords) expect that someone will suggest furnace inspections in all of the units fairly soon.
We then had the discussion about if it was us, or in our building, what would we try to grab first. So far, the list is Cats, memory books & photo albums, the server (which has all the digital archives), and then the other stuff.
