It's all a matter of scale
Apr. 5th, 2006 05:34 pmThe modeling group got new computers today.
Most people, when they get new computers, might get 2 or 3. Not them. They got TWO TONS of computers. 64 twin-processor machines with network hubs and racks delivered as 7 skids of equipment.
This is only a third of their planned lab, which eventually will have 200 machines in it.
Of course, it also meant that I got to spend the afternoon driving a forklift, and that I got to make the professors and their grad students move the skids around on the two docks. Computational Modelers really aren't very mechanical adept, and pallet jackets are more complicated than some of them can handle.
