Last night's party was a lot of fun.
The t-shirt was a success. I wrapped it up to look like a bottle of wine. Nobody who looked at the gifts even bothered to pick it up, or they'd have noticed it was squishy. When I gave it to him, I told him it was something "we whipped up in the lab for him."
I've got about 300 pictures from the event that'll go online tomorrow because there are people who were at the party who will want to download them.
Today's just been a really busy day. I got up about 8. By a little after 9 I was at work because Sue (the boss) wanted some furniture moved to get things set up for our accreditation review (today through Tuesday). We decided that the reviewer probably would have his own computer, so I didn't need to set one up for him, but Sue did want a temporary netID for him, which took a scrounge through our financial office (DoIT needs any requisition from your department so they can look up info from it to see if your department uses space that has DoIT run wireless in it before they give you temporary IDs). Of course, right after I got that done, the College sent out an email that they had temporary IDs set up for all the accreditation people (and yes, the entire College of Engineering is going through this at the same time, and we do this every six years)
I got that all set up, and got back home about 11:30.
teeka and I then took a quick drive through the flea market at N. Sherman and Aberg, and decided it didn't look like a promising venue for being a vendor at. We then visited the Northside Farmer's Market for veggies and stopped at Meikle's for a rod saw blade (she uses them for cleaning the center holes in her beads) and then went back home.
I cleared out my side of the garage and insulated the other sidewall for the dust collector and put up the drywall on that side. Then I built the ceiling and drywalled one side of it. When I went to put it up, it was a little too big (or slightly warped), so I cheated and used the power planer to take about an eighth of an inch off one side (and I didn't set one of the screws in that side of the piece far enough, so now I need to resharpen the planer blades), and then, with a little help from Teeka, jammed it up into the ceiling and screwed it down. Add insulation and another piece of drywall, and the ceiling's done. I'll need to add a section of front wall yet bring the opening down to proper height for a prehung door, but that'll happen some other day.
Now, however, I've cleared all of the drywall from around the workbench, so I can start sorting out the stuff under and on top of it, hopefully making enough room to pick up the boxes that currently are on the floor on Teeka's side. Doing so will let the trailer park tight up against the workbench, which will then make enough room for the door on her shop to swing open wide enough to get into her shop, and I'll then be able to hang her door.
Meanwhile, I need to call the city and ask about building permits. We've got enough projects ongoing or planned, I probably should find out what they need permits for. I looked online, and while they convered new construction, they don't really specify what they want for minor remodelling (ie - do I need a permit to move a light switch to the other side of the wall, or replace the laundry tub, or install the dust collector, or add 60A of 110V AC to the garage or ...).
Now, I've got to work on accreditation stuff. The ABET guy "suggested" to Sue today that she quickly whip up some documentation that shows that the staff have been involved in the process and that we (the staff) agree with the plan that the Department has set up. As a result, we have a staff meeting at 7:45am tomorrow, but it should mostly be us saying "yeah, it all looks good to us." I took a quick look at it, and since it's all really generalized, I don't see anything right now that I feel a need to complain about. If anyone's interested in what I need to look at, the basic info is here.
