Winter storms
Mar. 2nd, 2007 12:39 pmMy in-laws are trying to get to our house today or tomorrow because we all have tickets for Cirque du Soleil on Sunday at the Kohl Center.
They're not having an easy time of getting out of their own yard.
Last night they called about 9. The the 24 hours previous to then, they'd had 15 inches of snow fall (on top of the 8 or so from earlier storms). Yesterday evening the City of Duluth pulled the plug on snow plowing and, basically, said "You're on your own. If there's an emergency, we'll send out plows and fire trucks, but we can't guarantee they'll get there." Plowing stopped from about 6pm until about 3am when the blizzard conditions had cleared enough to get the plows out safely.
They also said that Duluth had put tire chains on the fire trucks. For the first time since 1962.
I just looked at their weather. The blizzard warning has been downgraded to a Winter Storm Warning. I'm sure we'll be hearing about snowmobilers lost in the woods or killed by whatever they hit in the storm, as they finally have enough snow everywhere.
