May. 7th, 2007 11:22 amSeveral years ago, I bought a Nikon Coolpix 5700. I've taken a lot of pictures with it, and i like it a lot.
Now I have a Coolpix 5700 that takes pictures that look like this.
Fortunately (for me, at least), I really have two 5700s. One of the profs at work bought one about the same time I did, and his died about a month ago. He's bought a new camera (a dSLR), and finally remembered he was going to give his 5700 to me.
So, I now have two more batteries, another data cable, possibly another a/c cord (he thinks he has one, but doesn't remember where it is), another battery charger, and an almost complete set of spare parts for a 5700. I just eBay'd the repair manual for the 5700, so now I can take this one apart and see if there's anything obviously broken. If so, it may be relatively cheap to get a second working camera.
Edit: Nikon has a service advisory out for the 5700 for a similar problem. I just emailed Nikon with a sample pic to see if they think the prob is covered by the advisory. If so, I may be able to get them to fix if for free.
