Weekend Update
Jun. 4th, 2007 09:12 amWe got back last night from the Pirate Festival and unloaded most of the truck between the rain showers.
We discovered that the gutters were full of leaves (it becomes obvious when the water is pouring over the side the whole length of the house). We also discovered which crack in the basement wall leaks when this happens. I cleared some of the leaves out with the hose, but decided to wait until morning to fix it. Meanwhile, we turned up the dehumidifier in the basement and pointed the fan at the wet spots (everything was dried out this morning).
This morning I ran into work and borrowed a ladder. 10' step ladders can really be useful sometimes. All the gutters are clean, and everything (for now) is draining properly.
We had a good time at the fair. They had three large tents (kiddie, day vending, and day/night vending) set up, and this turned out to be a good thing. Saturday it poured rain on and off, and Sunday they threw us all out of our tent because of reports of a tornado touchdown near Cedarburg, only a few miles away. What with the weather and all, Sunday had been a slow day, but in the hour or so after the all clear, we doubled our take for the day. It helped that we were one of the few vendors that didn't immediately pack up and leave (some did as soon as the tornado warning went off), and we didn't actually start packing up until almost an hour after the fair officially closed (there were still people shopping) - but we did have a 20% off Tornado Sale, which we
teeka started in the shelter in the basement of the bank by hawking her pirate hair jewelry for $4 instead of the usual $6 price.
Now I'm waiting for Teeka to wake up so that she can drive me and the ladder back to work because she needs the truck to get to work this afternoon. Meanwhile, I'm cleaning the house a little and doing laundry (we have a giant pile of wet booth stuff and garb from yesterday).
