It's a real mess out there.
Feb. 17th, 2008 11:31 amThe buses have shut down for the day, and they're not sure if they'll be running tomorrow.
The malls are closed because of weather. Somebody just posted in a different group that the local churches are closed do to an "Act of God."
We've got 1/4" of ice on the trees, and up to an inch of ice & slush on the driveway and sidewalks.
I went out earlier this morning and knocked the ice off the bird feeders and gave the squirrels more corn. Then I started chopping drainage trenches across the bottom of the driveway and from the curb cut on the corner to across the street. I also ran trenches for a few neighbors who had big pools of water in their driveways (I was out already, so why not?). As far as getting around today, I really like my sandals of doom. Along with one of these, it makes short work of most small ice problems (larger areas are what napalm was made for).
Tomorrow I've got a new lab module starting up for my boss's class, and I'm supposed to tape a faculty hiring candidate seminar. I'm not worried about the last one - I've got all the equipment ready, but if the buses aren't running, someone else gets to do it, assuming that the guy's plane gets into Madison later tonight.
