WI Renn Faire Disaster
Jul. 7th, 2008 06:15 pmFriday night, something strange appeared above the village of Doon Douglas:

No one was sure what it was, but someone got off a lucky shot with the trebuchet:

This caused the object to crash into the town, resulting in a huge explosion:

No one from the town was injured, although one of the river islands did become engulfed in flames. The only survivor of the crashed object was found the next morning:

It took a bit of doing, but I figured out how to do fireworks photography with
teeka's little camera (a Fuji FinePix A360). The photos above, as well as the rest of this weekend's pictures will be here as soon as I get them crunched down into a flash album. The pictures are all taken using the Night Shot scene mode, and the first picture above was done by rotating the camera during the exposure.
There actually was a fire on one of the river islands, but I don't know how large or which island. I did hear that it caused the arrival of three pumper trucks, one rescue squad, and a brush fire truck.
We had a good weekend, although it was hot (85F Sat, 83F Sun), but the rain that had been predicted for Sunday held off until we were driving home. I sold the same chainmail bracelet three times on Saturday (basically, as soon as I got one of that particular design put together, somebody bought it), and we sold loose beads (all the ones that Teeka hasn't gotten around to putting into sets) for $0.60-$1.00/gram, and they went over really well.
