revchrisI was shoveling out bus stops after dinner tonight and while I was still working my way out to the street, the #4 pulled up to let a woman off. As she stepped off the bus, I said "They told me you were coming, but I didn't get the drift shoveled out yet," and then helped her over the snow heap.
While she was standing there, slightly confused because she has no clue as to who I am, waiting for traffic to clear, she asked me if I was a police officer or if I worked for the city. When I told her I was neither she said that she had seen my hat, and wasn't sure if MPD had changed hats or something.
For anyone who hasn't seen it, I have a really big hat.
At this point, my first instinct is to tell her that no, the hat means I'm a submarine commander for the former USSR. Instead I gave her the story of the hat (see the Sovietski link, above, for details), and then traffic cleared enough that she could cross the street.
