Maybe some people shouldn't have computers
Jul. 6th, 2005 09:42 pmYesterday, the prof whose notebook died decided that he wanted to look at his old drive and see if he could get any more files off it. He took one of his grad students' desktops to his office (so he could also get some work done and read some email), got a 2.5" drive adapter, and plugged in his drive. He spent most of the day trying to get files back (and not having much luck).
This morning he called me because his desktop wouldn't start. I went up, tried it, unplugged everything from the motherboard, tried it again, and didn't even get a beep. Called Dell and they're sending me a 'Hero Kit.' Thy they call a new mobo, CPU, RAM, and power supply a hero kit, I don't know.
Then I spent the rest of the morning setting up a new computer for him (I loaned him one I hadn't deployed yet). If he breaks it before the one his group ordered new for him today comes in, I told him I'm not giving him another one.
