Aug. 11th, 2005 07:18 pmOne of the more common recurring problems at work is visas. The UW has a lot of people from other countries, and as they decide to try to stay in the US, whether for grad school or whatever, it leads to occasional problems. If you leave the country during the wrong part of the process, the US won't let you back in.
One of our newest faculty is going home next week to change her visa from student to an employment-allowed version. She's worried, because the Polish government usually has a lot of hoops to jump through. And, with the post-9/11 immigration rules, she's had 5 interviews from the US government already this month.
We wished her luck, and told her that if there's a problem, we'll send her money for a good coyote to sneak her back in across the border.
