TV Problems
Mar. 30th, 2007 05:49 pmLast fall, right before Thanksgiving, we bought a new TV. In January it started to develop a green blob on the right half of the picture tube, so we took it in to get fixed. They degaussed it, and rebuilt the degaussing coil.
A few weeks ago, the blob came back, so we called Walmart's service number (because we bought an extended warranty to go with it). They came out today and said "Bad shadow mask, you'll need a new picture tube." Then we found out that the service plan doesn't cover the tube. We called the local service center, and they told us to call Funai (the company that makes Ilo), and that they'll authorize extending the service plan (and they did, but only because I know lots of ways to say "Oh, yes you will!" when they tried to tell me that they couldn't). Now, I need to call the factory service guys back so that they can "officially" tell me that they can't get a new tube (Funai ran out, and won't be making more).
If all goes according to plan (
teeka got the proper strategy from the factory guys earlier today), I can call Funai back tomorrow (when they gave me the service center info, the Funai guy told me that the factory service center in Monona was already closed for the day, so I can't logically call them until tomorrow), give Funai the part number for the tube, tell them the service center can't get it, and have them tell me that they'll replace the entire TV, a process that Teeka says the factory service guys say takes about 2 months.
