To the RenFaire! Stat!
Jun. 11th, 2007 08:43 pmThis weekend was mostly prep for the WI Ren Faire in Chip Falls.

This picture covers most of my weekend projects. Saturday while
teeka was at Farmer's Market, I cut and milled tent poles. After I picked her up, they got sanded and tung oiled. Sunday I helped move a hot tub, and then bound the upper end of all 13 tent poles with brass bands and put the pins in (3/8"x6" lags with the heads cut off after insertion). As breaks between those pojects, we picked up the camper from where it winters in Stoughton, vacuumed it out, and opened it up to air out.
I also managed to finish shampooing all the upstairs carpets (I moved small furniture, but not the big stuff, as those areas of the carpets don't get a lot of traffic).
Teeka says that
techdragon will have the tent done on Wednesday, so we'll be attempting to put it up that evening. More pictures to come.
We're planning on an 11x14 tent that should require 12 poles (4 each of 8', 7', and 6'), but I made a spare 8' pole so that we have an extra if needed. There are also four 8' rails that may get installed to create a rigid framework inside the tent to let us hang stuff up if needed. The rails aren't bound, as I ran out of the right size of screws. The brass is 1" x 1/16" strip (from my cookie-cutter-making supplies) screwed into both wide sides of the poles with 1-5/8" deck screws and brass trim washers. It took two trial posts to figure out the best technique for binding them (first, don't precut the strip - feed it off the roll; second, two quick-grip clamps for bending the strip tight to the pole), but then it went fairly quickly. Binding detail picture is here.
