Tent update
Jun. 21st, 2007 12:49 pmThe tent roof is now completely waterproofed.
We reorganized the poles (we reversed the top, and switched the poles so that the front is now 7' high, the mid-line is 8' and the back is still 6') so that it sheds water better, and (with the aid of
teeka's mom)we're currently converting the sidewalls from hanging via drapery hooks to sewn-in ties. The side sidewalls also now stop a foot from the ground because we had to shorten them to get them to match the new roof line.
Next change is to add some rope guide loops to the top so that the ropes that the sidewalls hang from don't sag as much (or require pinning).
In the original configuration, the 8' poles were in front, and then the 7' and 6' poles were near the back. We discovered on Friday night that this was too flat of a pitch to shed water very well, and dropped the back corners some to help drain the top. The current plan makes the customer end a little busier, but it drains better. At some future point we may put a second set of grommets in to move the center poles closer to the center of the tent, which should also help with the drainage, and will open up the front of the tent some.
In non-tent news, we're enjoying a week off in the north woods, fighting with the biting flies and watching for ticks as necessary. Went to the swimming beach yesterday, but it was a little cold and windy, so we didn't stay long. Also helped split wood yesterday. Teeka's dad and I did a couple of face cords, but they need a lot more split before next winter (last year they emptied the wood shed - including splitting wood during the winter - for the first time in many years).
I might also be getting a chain saw (65cc, 24" bar). Teeka's dad found one in a ditch. He thinks it fell off of a logging truck, but no one's advertised anywhere about missing one, and it's a little too big for him, so he may permanently loan it to me.
