Just in time for more snow
Feb. 16th, 2008 02:41 pmI spent part of today shoveling off the roof and breaking up some of the ice buildup.
I got half the driveway side this morning before taking
teeka to work, and when I came home that side was melted clear, and steaming, but I couldn't get any of the steam to show up in pictures. I should have done the north side of the house this morning because doing it this afternoon meant I was looking into the sun the whole time.
Now the edge 3-4' of roof are clear, and the driveway side gutters are loaded with ice melter in hopes of getting them to clear out. I think this summer we may look into installing heater tape on the roof edges and gutters because so far we don't really have an ice dam problem, but the gutters are frozen solid with ice.
I should do the garage too, but I don't think that's going to happen today.
I'm also starting to think about taking down (or having someone else take down) the cedar next to the garage. It blocks a lot of the winter sun that would help melt off my roofs, and according to the neighbor on that side, it's my tree, and he won't miss it if it went away. There's still almost a foot of snow on the roof in some places (here is a pic with the roof rake stuck into the drift on the roof for reference).
