We built a workbench and another set of shelves in the garage; laid a small patio for the grill in the back yard; put in pavers to form a walking path between the planting beds in the front yard; finished wallpapering the end wall of the kitchen; and painted our bedroom and the upstairs hallway and stairwell.

I appreciate my whole family showing up for the weekend, but, they can get to be a bit much. We made an extra Menards run Saturday to get a roll of wallpaper and a roll of border, but while we were on the way there, they called and said "Bring extra so we can do the whole kitchen." My sister had said something along the line of "We're here, give us more to do!" and that was the only other thing on the list - she can be a little pushy ([livejournal.com profile] teeka would say a lot pushy), but I eventually derailed half the kitchen wallpapering because by then no one wanted to take everything on the outside wall down to clean the wall first.

Glad you managed a way to derail our sister. Some days she needs tranqing.

It was good though, and the chili was excellent, if not quite spicy enough.

Actually, Maggie was somewhere else, and I derailed Ma.

You want the chili recipe?

I dunno, I hate to feel ungrateful and all that, but I really wish that instead of the 'freight train let's get as many things done as we possibly can this weekend right away right now let's go go go do stuff now now now what else can we do' attitude, I'd prefer the 'let's just take our time, make this enjoyable, and do it completely right and well in one shot' attitude. I love the fact that the bedroom's painted, I love the fact that Chris now has a marvelous, sturdy workbench, and I really like the pavers, they look bootiful. I don't love the fact that the stairs and hallway need a second coat because no one wanted to just relax for an hour before re-coating, they just wanted to rushrushrush to the next project, and I don't love the fact that Chris had to make a special trip to the hardware store to get wallpaper that they insisted we put up, and when it went up, they didn't read the directions and overlapped it (because in the dark ages, it was paper and it shrank, so even though it's vinyl, it must still shrink, right, even though the directions say not to overlap it?), which doesn't look great, and put different dye lots next to each other, which doesn't look great, and after demanding that we get enough wallpaper to do the entire kitchen, no one wanted to wash or paint the kitchen wall and so they decided not to wallpaper the whole thing after all, so either I'm going to have to live with being irritated that the wallpaper that was done over the weekend just doesn't look nearly as nice as the wallpaper that Chris and I did previously, or we get to yank it off the wall and do it the right way. And meanwhile, I got kicked out of the one room in the house that wasn't filled with paint fumes or sawdust, so I got a migraine and wasn't as pleasant as I could have been.

All of which makes me feel like an ungrateful bitch, but really, we rent, it's a relatively small apartment, we only had three things on our to-do list, everyone knew we only had three things on our to-to list, and I was really hoping that when we got those three things, we could sit together as a family and have some family time, just gab and stuff.

But I still feel like an ungrateful bitch.
