Snowblowers

We're starting to think about replacing ours.

It's getting to where I'm spending more time trying to keep it running than actually blowing snow.

teeka called jeffreyp to see if we can get one from Jeff's dad, and I'm going to start pricing carburetor rebuild kits and points (if one of those two doesn't fix it, it's probably not worth trying anything else). If that works, and I can get it to run properly, then it'll be time to talk to somebody (Hi Jeff!) about trying to reweld the auger shroud onto the impeller housing (half the welds have broken loose).

All in all, it's a 21-year-old snowblower, and it may not really be worth fixing, but first I need to figure out the repair costs.

Edit: Carburetor rebuild kits are unavailable from the three sources I checked (including the manufacturer).

Don't have any of the large ones in the pipe at the moment, I can ask him to keep an eye out again. I 've got two of the little paddle types here, but I think they both just need the carb cleaned, they ran before but haven't used them yet this year.

If they're anything like the first paddle-type, the drifts are already too high for them to shoot over. Today's snow would have been fine for one, but they wouldn't have done much on the big snow earlier this week.

We're currently pondering just buying a new one (Farm & Fleet has 22" two-stage listed on their website for $500).

I'm guessing one is the same model as the last one, and the other is the same style, just different brand.

Now that we've got a new snowblower, is your dad possibly interested in the old one?

I'm guessing not, as he is trying to find space in his garage again.
