Geeks with Toys
Apr. 8th, 2004 03:36 pmBeware Geeks bearing strange gadgets.
I just got a sound level meter for work so that I can tell how loud I'm being (when hammer drilling or other noisy remodeling stuff).
And, me being me, I turned it on, walked into our Department Secretary's office, turned it on, pointed it at her, and then she looked up and asked "What?" - wanted to know what I wanted, as she saw me standing there, but hadn't noticed the gadget.
I looked at the meter, said "I thought so." and turned to leave.
She then made me come back and tell her what I was doing, so I explained what the meter did and showed her that it proved what we knew all along - that she was noisy.
Everyone in the office then (her included) agreed with it, and then we all left to go do other stuff.
Then I started measuring other stuff. My office has a normal background of about 50db. The lab I'm working in is 65-70db. Pulling the door shut behind me is about 85db.
