Credit cards
Feb. 3rd, 2005 08:48 amIn December, I got a letter from FirstUSA stating that they now owned a the company that issued a credit card that I had forgotten I had. Then I got a statement from them for the 2005 annual fee. Not having used the card in years, and not wanting to pay them any money, I canceled the card, which they said would nullify the fee.
About two weeks after that, I got another letter from them saying that they were sorry, they shouldn't have charged me the fee, and they were going to credit me for it.
Two weeks after that, I got a statement from them showing the $28 fee, and a $29 credit, presumably to cover the fee and any finance charges. I called them up, and they confirmed that yes, my account had been closed a month ago, at which point I went back to ignoring them, since the last statement is something they have to do to be able to prove the account was clear at closing.
A couple days ago, I get another letter from FirstUSA. It contains a check for $1, which they are returning to me as it was an overpayment to my account.
I think they're goofs, but I'll keep the dollar.
