I love DOS
Aug. 30th, 2006 10:40 amOne of our vendors just stopped by my office. She's using one of our microscopes to demonstrate some of the advanced camera functions to another prof who is interested in buying one. They got stuck, however, in that the camera software wouldn't allow them to create a new profile and activate the feature that they want to use, and asked me if I would give them administrator access to the computer so that they could change the file.
I told them that I wouldn't, but also that if they removed 'Read Only" status from the .INI file, it'd do what they want.
Colleen (the vendor) says it's the simplest security she's ever seen used for the camera software, and we both agree that it's an old enough trick nobody's going to think of it as the first idea.
