3 hours, three stops for gas, one stop for cursing the graders (that came through and made have to redo the end of the driveway, the crosswalk and front sidewalk), we're currently done cleaning up after last night's snow fall.

Much more snow and I'm not going to be able to use the snowblower as much - the banks around everything are starting to get a little tall for the snow thrower we've got. This is where a two-stage snow blower with a chute would be handy.

a blizzard warning remains in effect from 6 pm this evening to 12 pm cst sunday.

another round of snow is expected to spread into the area this afternoon. some sleet may be mixed in with the snow at times. the snow will be occasionally heavy tonight. additional snowfall expected tonight through monday of 7 to 14 inches is expected.

in addition...strong east winds will gust to 40 mph at times resulting in blizzard conditions with visibilities reduced to less than one quarter mile at times. the strongest winds are expected tonight into sunday morning.

a blizzard warning is issued when sustained winds or frequent gusts of 35 mph or more will combine with falling and/or blowing snow to result in near whiteout conditions with visibilities
around 1/4 mile or less for 3 hours or more.

this will be a very dangerous situation. if you leave the safety of indoors...you are putting your life at risk. travel is not recommended tonight and sunday.*

I ran some errands today so as to get them done between the snow.

At Woodmans I overheard one of the staff telling someone that the "plague of locusts" thing happened yesterday - the checkouts were 20-25 people deep, they did more than 50% more sales than usual, and they had to restock nearly everything overnight.

Now, on the MadisonWI and UW_Madison groups there's a guy saying he heard that Metro was going to shut down at 6pm tonight because of the blizzard warning. I haven't seen anything about this on Metro's site or on the City's news feed, but in any case, I'm glad I'm not limited by the bus schedules.

I can't remember when Metro shut down last. Since the UW shuts down about as often (Metro closing is one of the factors in the decision for shutting down campus), it's probably been a while.
