Dock Weekend Summary
May. 31st, 2004 09:41 pmEverybody (my folks;
misteropinion's ex and their kids;
teeka & I; my little brother (N), his wife, and their kids; and my sister) was up north by about 6pm on Friday. Misteropinion wasn't there, as he had to work (I think he said they were rebuilding the server room at work). This adds up to eight adults and five kids.
Saturday we put the dock in. It took about six hours (with an hour off in the middle for lunch). The weather was good, but the lake was a bit cold, and near the end of the main run, N split his waders, leaving dad & I to frame the platform and put in the two end posts (which let us get it stable enough that the other four platform posts could be done from on top of the platform).
Sunday N (wearing dad's waders) & I put in the first two rail sections for the boat launch (which didn't take long, but we had to figure it out all over because it's been 8 years or so since it was done last). Then we stood around for an hour or two while dad finished building a new sawbuck, which is needed to hold up the third section during assembly), and then we hooked on the third rail section, pulled the temporary supports (so that it sank to the lake bed), and then we stuffed rocks under a few spots to level it some.
This morning was spent cleaning up the cottage and digging drainage ditches in the yard to help drainage - we only got about an inch of rain, but parts of the back yard were six inches deep, and we had to clean out the park's ditch so that water stopped overflowing and running through the boat house. Teeka and I packed up earlier than everyone else, and were on the road by noon, just in time to hit the main traffic load, which gave the trip home a few complete stops, at least one of which was solely due to gapers block.
