Work stuff
Feb. 12th, 2004 07:35 pmThe faculty finished voting for a new chair today. After two months of waiting for them to vote on how the ballots should look, and when the election should be, and calling University legal to make sure they can have a secret ballot, and building a new ballot box that requires two people to unlock, and having the votes counted by the Dean's secretary, and a whole lot of other silliness, we've picked a new chair: Sue Babcock.
Now I hope I'm done painting tables at work because it's going to take me about a week to get the paint off. The lab I'm remodeling is getting workbenches for tables, but because the tables are brown and the samples they use are 3mm diameter copper disks, they had me paint the tables white. Two coats of epoxy enamel is a very durable white surface, but it takes a while to get all the paint off my hands.
I've found a really handy gadget for a lot of projects:
It's called Measure Easy and is from Mighty Hands, Inc. "What is it?" you ask. It's a little gadget that goes on the end of a tape measure and makes it much easier to measure things by yourself. One side of it has spikes for gripping wood and drywall, and the other side is a magnet that will stick it to the shelves you're working on (or the corner bead inside the wall, or a nail, or the ceiling tile track, or...). It also works as a tool retriever, as the magnet has 5+ lbs. pull. My only complaint so far is that the little vinyl cover that comes with it to keep you from poking yourself on the pointy bits gets lost really easy.
