The remodelling commenceth!
Jul. 31st, 2006 10:32 pmWe started on the basement. The plan was to scrub the floor and then let it dry overnight so tomorrow we could paint and then start in on the floor tile.
teeka started mopping the floor while I was measuring for tile, and the paint on the floor started to dissolve and peel. Old latex paint will do that. We started scrubbing and it kept coming off. I left to pick up
snakewyfe, and borrowed their garden hose to help the paint along. They also gave us some chairs for around the kitchen table.
Sue (of no LJ) came over to drop off boxes and see the house, and stayed for a while.
We eventually decided that the hose and a jet nozzle were the best plan, and proceeded to blast a lot of the paint off the floor. We called
alyska and she and
jeffreyp came over and brought another hose & nozzle, along with two ice scrapers, which help a little (they break up the surface of the paint so that the water soaks it loose easier).
Snakewyfe, Teeka and I took a break and went to Menards, where we bought a dehumidifier and vinyl floor tile. We looked at paint, trying to find something that would look good on the walls without making the space too dark. We took paint chips home to think about it.
We also picked up a gallon of concentrated cleaner, and sloshed it all over the basement floor to help loosen up the paint. Tomorrow I'm going to air out the house and scrub down the floor while Teeka tries to mow the lawn (the cleaner is chemically enough that she doesn't want to be inside until the fumes clear up).
