[livejournal.com profile] teeka and I have been discussing buying a pop-up camper. We decided to buy it, but only after we tried it, and after we got the truck transmission fixed.

Unfortunately, it looks like the transmission is going to eat the entire camper fund.

According to the transmission shop I just talked to, I need a "Soft Parts Overhaul" which they quoted me at $1650.

I'm calling a few other places to see what kind of prices I can get.

I called a few places, all but one of them immediately quoted me a price for what they said I needed.

The other one (A-1 Transmission on Nob Hill Rd) said "Drop it off tonight, we'll test drive it in the morning and see if we think it's a problem, or just a feature of your transmission" and if they thought there was a problem, they'd put it on the machine and test it out. I left early and dropped it off there and then biked back, meeting [livejournal.com profile] teeka as she was getting off the bus.

Well, I can see the sensibility of the pop-up for bad weather, and i'm not saying that you SHOULDN'T buy one, just you'll roast if you want to sleep in good weather. If you tent it in good weather and trailer it in bad, you should be good. Just IMHO.
